Conservation & Legal
The proposed Bow hunting legislation has been a hotly debated topic since it was first proposed in 2006. Where it was first ‘brushed off’ as Un-implement able and ridiculous, we were forced had to take note when the first bow hunting restrictions was put in place. The hunting of some pachyderms is now illegal within our borders.
Currently, bow hunting of the following animals are prohibited:
- Elephant
- Rhino
- All cat species…. Including but not limited to Lion & Leopard
- Crocodile
- Hippo
Was this the first step in more severe restrictions ??
The draft Norms and Standard was published with some unique challenges to the Bow hunting Industry. We are at this point in time, waiting for the Final draft to be published, affording us that one last chance to comment as an Industry. We had to ensure that the proposed legislation was based on sound fact and not personal dislikes on opinion.
Since 2006, ABO has attained a seat at the Wildlife forum, and has to date responded to numerous documents where the rights of Bow hunters were impeded.
Examples thereof can be downloaded below:
The ABO has also successfully implemented the Certificate of Proficiency (COP) system in 2006. This self study coarse has found great support in the Bow hunting Industry and is currently available in the more Prominent Archery Shops and Clubs.
Proficiency days in 2009 was held as far as the Eastern Cape with more than 700 COP’s issued and renewed since 2007.
Please visit the Proficiency section on this website for more information regarding the COP’s.
